Dr. Qiusheng Wu¶

Dr. Qiusheng Wu is an Associate Professor and the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Geography and Sustainability at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He also serves as an Amazon Scholar.

His research focuses on geospatial data science and open-source software development, with an emphasis on leveraging big geospatial data and cloud computing to study environmental change, particularly surface water and wetland inundation dynamics.

He is the creator of several widely used open-source Python packages, including geemap, leafmap, segment-geospatial, and geoai, which support advanced geospatial analysis and interactive visualization. Several of them are used directly in this course. His open-source work is available through Open Geospatial Solutions on GitHub.

Coming to Office Hours¶

You do not need a reason to come, though bringing broken code is a perfectly good one. Office hours are the fastest way to get unstuck, and they are almost always empty in the first few weeks, which is exactly when a half hour of help is worth the most.

If the scheduled times do not work with your class schedule, email me and we will find another slot.

Getting Help Between Meetings¶

Technical questions belong on the GitHub Discussion board rather than in my inbox, so that the whole class benefits from the answer. I reply within one business day. Anything personal or private should come to me by email instead.
